The Koninklijke Steltenlopers van Merchtem are a group of enthusiastic people who want to entertain both young and old. Meet the group

We, the Koninklijke Steltenlopers van Merchtem, are a Flemish folkloric association that performs stilt walking. Our association has around 100 members, including stilt walkers, block or clog walkers, and a 25-person harmony band. We participate in parades, ceremonies, and other events in Belgium and abroad. Our stilts range in height from 1 meter to a maximum of 4.09 meters. The tallest stilts weigh 10–12 kilograms and are reserved for our most experienced members after years of practice. Block walkers march in trios on three pairs of clogs attached to skis, and must stay perfectly synchronized. In addition, our lively music selection provides atmosphere during the parade with popular songs.

Join our group

Do you want to become a member of our group? You can! We are always looking for new members to join us as stilt walkers, block walkers, or musicians. No experience is required; we will gladly teach you the skills. Contact us for more information.

Our clubhouse is open every Saturday afternoon from 2 PM to 5 PM if there is no group performance that day. Everyone is welcome, but we recommend contacting us first to ensure someone is there to assist you.
